A MOTORBIKE, A MIRACLE, & A PASTOR'S CAR: How Kindness Saved Two Lives Amidst a Strike
Maternal distress
Today, in the heart of Ghana’s Oti Region, a pregnant woman from Awoma village near Bodada( Jasikan Municipality)faced every mother’s nightmare. In intense labor, she was turned away not once, but twice. First at Jasikan Hospital, then at Hohoe Government Hospital due to the ongoing nurses’ strike.
Her desperate husband raced her on his motorbike over brutal roads, clinging to hope. But pain and terrain became too much. Halfway to safety, she collapsed, unable to endure another bump.
Along came Rev. Amankwah.
The Hohoe Presbytery Chairman (Global Evangelical Church) was driving by on an errand to buy something when he saw them. Without hesitation, he pulled over, loaded the distressed mother into his car, and sped toward help.
Then, the unthinkable:
She delivered in his back seat.
By the time they reached our facility, the newborn’s hands and feet had turned blue (cyanosis),a sign of critical oxygen loss. Our team raced into action, resuscitating the baby at our emergency unit.
Meanwhile, the placenta remained un-delivered… the umbilical cord still connected mother and child in that sacred, chaotic scene inside a pastor’s car.
BUT TODAY, HOPE WON.
Baby is ALIVE, healthy, and resting safely
Mother is stable.
To Rev. Amankwah:You didn’t just offer a ride; you offered a lifeline. When systems failed, your humanity didn’t. May Heaven smile on you always.
